I remember the first day I started the DTS journey it was 20 years ago and I was standing outside a business that was about to change my life forever. I was extremely nervous they wanted me to demonstrate my training and then make a decision to use me or not. At this point I had just left my lovely comfortable job at Cadbury’s training their sales and merchandising people and this demo meant the difference on paying the mortgage or not, it really was that important. I was so close to bottling it and going home thinking I would look for another job but something drove me in and of course I got the job and the rest is history.

I am driven by inspiring people to work on themselves, I believe that’s my purpose and even after all these years I love it. I enjoy the whole process of partnering with clients and putting together a workshop just for them, the job is creative, challenging and extremely varied. I have been privileged to travel all over the world visiting over 37 different countries working with different cultures and businesses. I feel I have learnt more from the learners and my customers than they have from me and for that I am so grateful.

Working with actors is a real joy, they are creative and talented and over the years we have worked together to perfect the art of experiential workshops. Using forum theatre, consequential theatre, simulations and demonstrations we are always coming up with new exciting ways to train learners that are challenging, realistic, practical, fun and linked to our customers key objectives.

As we move into an age of technology, AI and robots, soft skills such as empathy, communication and self-awareness are going to be essential to business, which means we will have an even bigger part to play in inspiring behavioural change.

Some people used to say I was ‘nosey’ asking people about their lives, their stories, their dreams, yet I’ve always been addicted or interested in; “What makes people tick, what makes them who they are?” Which in hindsight makes sense of my previous career choices: Actor/Director & Writer.

Working in training and development gives me a more tangible and immediate fix for my proclivities. I help people understand the stories they tell themselves, which shapes their relationships, their sense of where they sit in their world and ultimately, drive the things they do – both positively and negatively.

Once knowing what their story is, people can see the possibilities of creating a different story, the probabilities of rewards that a new role within the different story brings and the potential their new story gives their world.

The real power comes from the fact that people’s stories are rarely finished and as all writers will tell you – All writing is about rewriting…

Then again, maybe I’m still just nosey??

I have worked in the government and private sectors as a role-player and trainer for the last fifteen years, helping individuals bring out their best as communicators.  I have also has just co-written a business book on how to have difficult conversations in the work place.

Forum theatre created for role-play training includes the Better Regulation Executive for government, the Financial Services Authority and commercial clients like Shell, Pearson Education and many more. My particular niche is helping individuals harness the right mindset and physical presence to do themselves justice and remain calm in the face of pressure.

I started working with Dramatic Training Solutions in May 2017 following 15 successful years in the drinks industry at Diageo.  Prior to Diageo, I worked in sports marketing and spent three years in a B2B PR agency, as a sponsorship and events consultant working with Royal Mail across their domestic, European and North American operations.

In 1998 I joined Guinness (now part of Diageo) and was part of the trade marketing team.  Notable successes included the launch of Guinness Draught Extra Cold, the trade activation of the Guinness sponsorship for the Rugby World Cup 1999 and the Perfectionist Pub Programme (PPP) trade activation, which won the Institute of Sales Promotion Gold Award in 2000.

Diageo is one of the world’s leading brand marketing organisations and I received in-depth marketing training, becoming an expert in developing and growing brands. During my time at Diagio I worked on Jack Daniel’s, Baileys, Talisker with my last role at Diageo, leading the innovation development.

During my career I have built several successful brands, managed large teams and delivered commercial results. On a personal level I’m passionate about doing something that makes a difference and building sustainable business models.

Diageo provided me with some of the best training which helped me develop this knowledge, so I can help others with brand training workshops with DTS. I have also worked with TUI Travel, KPMG, Vodafone and many start up businesses.

I have a Masters degree in Coaching from Loughborough University and currently I’m a research Associate at Cardiff Metropolitan University. My research is focused on personal development through reflective practices.

Alongside a solid career as an actor in film, stage and tv, I have been a role player and facilitator for over 25 years in the public and private sector, not only in the UK but also across Europe and around the world, including the USA, South Africa and Australia.

I’m an all rounder and have being involved in courses such as leadership, performance management, appraisals, disciplinary training, coaching and presentation which means adapting to the needs of the participant with tact and discretion whether they be graduates or senior managers, directors in sensitive positions or indeed clinical consultants at the top of their careers on an advanced communication course. I particularly enjoy the exploration of how our behaviour affects communication and by changing our beliefs, thoughts and actions we can influence change in what might seem difficult and stressful situations. In the words of Shakespeare “It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.”

I have always been interested in people. What makes them tick. Why we are who we are. The choices we make about how we behave.

Training as an actor, studying Sociology and Psychology, working with martial arts and Mindfulness, have all enabled me to develop my passion for understanding myself, others, and how we, as human beings, communicate and inform my practice.

With a focus on Experiential learning and a blend of techniques including management models, Storytelling and drama based techniques, I have been working as a freelance actor and facilitator in education and business for over 15 years delivering workshops on all aspects of communication from team building and management training to Storytelling for business and Presentation Skills.

I believe in creating a safe, inclusive, supportive, and appropriately challenging environment to enable the learning. A space to allow individuals to explore their thoughts feelings and behaviours, to practice, make mistakes, give and receive feedback, to make choices.
A space that allows for open conversations, whether it is about managing people, professional boundaries, diversity and our Unconscious bias, or how to be a leader.
